Discover the castles of Mallorca

Mallorca, known as one of the most dazzling pearls of the Mediterranean, is much more than its paradisiacal beaches and vibrant social life. This island is also a historical treasure, full of majestic castles and fortresses that offer a window to the past. From Smarthome, your luxury boutique real estate agency in Palma, located in the exclusive area of Paseo del Borne, we invite you to discover the most emblematic castles of Mallorca. In this blog we will explore the architectural wonders and the unique history behind each one, combining the cultural richness of the island with its breathtaking landscape.

Bellver Castle

Bellver Castle, located on the outskirts of Palma, is one of the most unique castles in Spain due to its circular layout. Built in the 14th century by order of King James II of Mallorca, this Gothic castle has served as a royal residence, a military prison and now a museum.

Its structure includes a central courtyard surrounded by a two-storey gallery and towers on each of the four cardinal points. The Torre del Homenaje, separated from the main building by a drawbridge, offers impressive views of the Bay of Palma.

Alaró Castle

The Alaró Castle stands on a hill in the center of Mallorca, at an altitude of 822 meters. Its origins date back to the Muslim period, although its greatest fame was achieved during the resistance of the Christians against the Arab invaders in the 13th century.

The ascent to the castle is an experience in itself, with a hiking route that offers spectacular panoramas. The remains of the castle include defensive walls and various internal structures that allow one to imagine its former glory.

Castle of Capdepera

At the eastern end of the island, in the municipality of Capdepera, stands the castle of the same name, built in the 14th century to protect the population from pirate attacks. Its strategic location allows you to see as far as the island of Menorca on a clear day.

The walled enclosure contains a church, houses and other buildings. Walking along its walls is an immersive experience in the medieval life of Mallorca.

Santueri Castle

Located in the Sierra de Levante, the Castle of Santueri stands on a cliff 400 meters high. Of Byzantine origin, it has witnessed numerous battles and occupations over the centuries.

The castle is in ruins, but its remains offer a glimpse of ancient defensive architecture and panoramic views that make a visit worthwhile.

Mallorca's castles are not only historical monuments, but also silent witnesses to the evolution of the island over the centuries. Visiting these castles is a journey into the past, where every stone tells a story of courage, resistance and power. Plan your route and discover the rich cultural heritage that Mallorca has to offer.
